Description
This hands-on horseback riding tour in Skagway explores the nearby mountains just like the pioneers did over a century ago, on horseback! Off the pavement and away from the crowds, step into nature with your guide and discover the remote beauty of wild Alaska with this small group tour. No previous horseback experience is required - only a sense of adventure is needed!
Starting with a pick-up in downtown near the cruise ship docks, it's a 10-mile drive out to historic Dyea where you'll meet your horse and expert guide for the scenic ride. From Dyea, the Chilkoot Horseback Adventure begins and journeys into the Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park. This once-booming Gold Rush town of 10,000 now lays abandoned, adding to the fascinating history of this mysterious area.
Continue on through Alaska's old-growth temperate rainforest as your guides share tales and knowledge from the gold-crazed miners that traveled to this area over a century ago in hopes of striking it rich. You'll arrive at the Dyea flats for 360 degree views of stunning scenery and glimpses of the historic Chilkoot Trail. Ride by the northern tip of the Lynn Canal, North America's longest and deepest fjord, and snap of photo of the mystical green waters. All along the way, savor the clean mountain air, quiet forests, and inspiring snow-capped peaks for that 'Alaskan experience' you've been waiting for.
