The Alaska Wildlife Day Tour offers hotel pickup and begins with a scenic one-hour drive along the Seward Highway, which hugs the shoreline of the Turnagain Arm and provides some truly breathtaking views, which you'll be able to enjoy through the van's large windows as you make your way to the Alaska Wilderness Conservation Center! Once there, you'll embark on a 90-minute guided tour on foot or aboard the van. Here, you'll have the chance to meet some of the center's stars, such as Hugo, a grizzly bear who was found injured and abandoned, and Pip and Jo, the rescued orphan moose siblings who love to play together in the tall grass and delight visitors with their antics.

What's Included

This tour includes roundtrip transportation in a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter van. You'll travel along the scenic Seward Highway and Turnagain Arm from Anchorage to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. A guided tour to view the animals and learn about their care runs for roughly 90 minutes. During this time, you can choose to walk, ride in the van, or switch back and forth. The van is always accessible. Restrooms are available at the sanctuary.

The one-way drive from Anchorage takes approximately one hour, and you can spend up to 90 minutes exploring the sanctuary.

If you plan to bring an infant on this tour, please let us know in advance to ensure there is sufficient space and that we can make the necessary arrangements to guarantee your child's safety. What if the weather is bad? Will the tour be canceled?
Due to Alaska's unpredictable weather, this tour operates rain or shine and is rarely canceled. However, if the weather is too severe for the tour to take place, we will happily refund you or reschedule your tour for a different day.
How much walking is needed?
This tour requires minimal walking, mostly at the outset as you make your way to the van. At the wildlife sanctuary, the walking path is approximately 1.5 miles long, but you are more than welcome to ride in the van and pull up right to the enclosures for a closer look at the animals.

To ensure your comfort, you should bring comfortable shoes, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent. While summer temperatures typically range from the mid-50s to the 70s, Alaska's weather is unpredictable, so you should be prepared for rain and wind. Dressing in layers and wearing a rain-proof jacket is the best way to stay comfortable on this tour. You are welcome to bring snacks and beverages of your choice, and we recommend bringing a reusable water bottle as well.
