Frequently Asked Questions

What Should I Wear?

Sitka's weather is famously unpredictable, with sunny skies one moment and rain showers the next. To stay comfortable, we recommend dressing in layers, preparing for cooler conditions. Bring a waterproof or water-resistant outer layer and sturdy footwear, especially if rain is in the forecast.

If you're unsure about what to bring, feel free to reach out to us for personalized advice.

For afternoon tours, you'll have time to explore downtown Sitka beforehand, where you can shop for outdoor gear at the many stores along Lincoln Street. This is a great opportunity to pick up anything you might need for your adventure!

What Happens if There's Bad Weather?

Your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities. If bad weather affects your tour, we will always prioritize guest safety and well-being. Should we need to cancel a tour due to adverse weather conditions, you will receive a full refund.

We want every guest to have a positive and enjoyable experience, and we'll do our best to accommodate your needs in such situations. Rest assured, our goal is to provide you with a safe and memorable adventure, rain or shine.

What If Our Ship Is Late or Doesn't Arrive in Sitka?

If your ship arrives late to port, we will work with you to reschedule your tour for a later time. In the unlikely event that your ship does not arrive in Sitka, you will receive a full refund. Your convenience and satisfaction are our priority!

What If My Group Has More Than 6 People?

No problem! If your group exceeds 6 people, we can accommodate you by arranging for an additional boat. For groups larger than 6, we typically request a partner boat to join us for the tour. If your group has more than 12 guests, we can arrange for multiple partner boats as needed.

All boats will travel together throughout the tour, ensuring everyone in your group shares the same memorable experience. We're happy to work with you to make arrangements that suit your group's size!

Why Is There a Minimum Group Size for Booking?

The minimum group size helps cover essential costs associated with an all-day excursion, such as fuel, fishing gear, bait, and food. Meeting this requirement ensures we can provide a high-quality experience while maintaining our operations.

Do We Get to Keep Our Catch?

Yes, and we recommend it! While catch-and-release is an option, please inform your captain in advance if that’s your preference.

At the end of your trip, any fish you keep will be delivered to a processor who will prepare it for shipping. If you're on a cruise, the processed fish will be shipped via Alaska Air Cargo to the airport nearest your home. The shipment will be timed to depart after your cruise ends, so you won’t need to worry about storage or logistics while traveling.

What Is Not Included?

Currently, the following items are not included in your tour:

  • Rain Gear: We recommend bringing at least rain-resistant gear, as Sitka's weather can be unpredictable. While you'll be in an enclosed cabin while traveling, you'll likely spend time outside while fishing, especially if the catch is abundant!
  • Fishing Licenses: These are required and can be purchased online at Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Be prepared for changing weather to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Why Don’t You Offer Halibut Fishing?

Based on our charter fishing experience, the time spent catching a small halibut often outweighs the reward. Additionally, halibut permits are extremely costly, priced at around $185,000 per permit.

As an alternative, we can arrange for halibut to be added to your order for an additional cost. This option typically provides more halibut than you would catch yourself. If you're interested, please let us know in advance so we can coordinate with a processor.
