Your Sitka Sound Kayak Adventure kicks off with a gear fitting and paddle lesson. Then, your knowledgeable guides will lead you through Sitka Sound’s pristine waters while pointing out the abundant marine life. What if I Have Never Kayaked Before?
This tour is especially well-suited for beginners, and we'll be paddling at a leisurely pace along calm waters. Additionally, everyone will receive a safety and gear orientation along with a paddle lesson so you’ll feel comfortable, safe and ready to have a great time.
What Should I Wear/Bring?
We provide all the paddle gear as well as rain gear if necessary, and you'll want to wear layered clothing ideally made of quick-drying material (non-cotton), comfortable shoes with a flexible sole, and a warm hat. We also provide bottled water and a light snack.
What if the Weather is Bad?
Rain is common in Southeast alaska but fortunately it does not diminish the beauty, fun, or safety of sea kayaking. We will outfit you with the proper rainproof gear if necessary. We will cancel guided tours and provide a refund if we determine paddling conditions to be unsafe: strong wind, very choppy seas, greatly reduced visibility, or a combination thereof. These conditions don’t occur often, but when they do, the safety of our guests is our highest priority.
Can my Child be in a Kayak on Their Own?
Participants under the age of 12 must ride/paddle in the same kayak as at least one parent or guardian. Children too young to paddle must ride in a triple-seat kayak with two adults.
Are there Height or Weight Restrictions?

The maximum height that the kayaks can accommodate is 6 feet 6 inches. The maximum weight is 275 lbs to safely fit into the kayaks and participants must also be able to fit into our 3XL PFD’s (life vests). Children must be at least 6 years old and weigh at least 50 pounds to properly fit into our child-size PFDs.

Where is the Meeting Location?
Your guides will be waiting to meet you on the lower promenade of the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal. They will be holding a 'Sitka Sound Ocean Adventures’ sign to direct you to the outfitting site.

If for any reason your tour is canceled, or if your cruise ship's schedule changes, you will receive a refund. Refunds do not include any non-refundable fees.
